Put all of the ingredients except for the vegan butter into a saucepan. (The broth should be cold or add cold water and a bouillon cube).
Stir until the starch dissolves.
Turn on heat to medium and stir frequently until it starts to boil.
Stir constantly for 30 seconds then turn off the heat.
Add the vegan butter or oil if you choose and stir until it's incorporated.
Notes
Vegan Gravy Variations:
Brown Gravy - use vegetable or "beef" flavored broth and add 1 tbsp of soy sauce (or Bragg's Liquid Aminos) and omit the poultry seasoning.
Turkey Gravy - follow the basic gravy recipe using chicken-style vegan broth, and add 1 tsp of Liquid Aminos or soy sauce.
White Gravy - use 1 cup vegetable broth and 1 cup vegan milk and omit the poultry seasoning.
Golden Gravy - follow the basic gravy recipe adding 1 extra tbsp of nutritional yeast and 1/4 tsp of turmeric. Add fresh ground pepper to enhance the nutritional benefits of turmeric.
