Peel and chop onions and carrots, and dice them into small pieces. Wash the celery and cut it into small pieces. Peel and mince the garlic, and add all the vegetables to your slow cooker.
Wash dried green split peas under running water until the water runs clear, then add them to your slow cooker.
Add the remaining bacon bits, salt, pepper, thyme, and broth to the slow cooker, then set to high for 4 hours or low for 6-8 hours.
Notes
Stir your soup occasionally throughout cooking to avoid clumping.
Add an additional cup of water or broth if the soup becomes too thick.
